Safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability of transport – these are the topics of the
annual ITS World Congresses. Being the biggest transport event internationally, telematics
know-how is presented in a very compact way. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) shall
enhance the safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability of transport. By hosting the
19th World Congress on ITS, from 22 to 26 October 2012, Vienna will be the focus of an
international discussion on the subject of ITS.

ITS Vienna 2012 will be organised by ERTICO ITS EUROPE, ITS America, ITS Asia Pacific and
the BMVIT (Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation, and Technology). Austria
Tech, as the telematics agency of the BMVIT, is responsible for the implementation of the
technical tours and demonstrations. One major point is to inform the vast group of users
comprehensively and to show which benefits Intelligent Transport Systems have in the daily
traffic.

Under the banner of smarter on the way, the ITS Vienna 2012 is going to deal with innovative
transport and mobility solutions. Main topics will be intermodal traffic information services,
co-operative systems, electro-mobility, and the global navigation satellite system Galileo.
Further topics are going to be the integration of different modes of transport as well as the
integration of the Danube region into the congress activities.
